Baishakhi Ray

Associate Professor, Columbia University

Baishakhi Ray is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University. She received her Ph.D. degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Texas, Austin and masters degree in Computer Science from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Baishakhi’s research interest is in Software Engineering with the intent to improve software reliability and security. Baishakhi has received Best Paper awards at FSE 2017, MSR 2017, IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy (Oakland), 2014. Her research has also been published in CACM Research Highlights and has been widely covered in trade media.

Prof. Ray, in particular, is interested in testing and debugging large-scale real-world systems—ranging from traditional logic-based systems to more recent AI-driven systems like self-driving cars, malware detection tools, etc. She builds novel program analysis techniques to analyze existing system properties and apply advanced machine learning models to learn from those properties. Such models are then used to automate development, testing, debugging, and fixing of real-world large-scale software.
