Research Areas
The Red Hat Research Program emphasizes research projects (PhD dissertations, Master’s Theses, multi-partner government-funded collaborations) in key areas described below. However, we are always evaluating what the next interest area is based on what we’re hearing from our academic and industry partners and seeing in our own explorations.
Research Interest Groups (RIGs)
The mission of each RIG is to foster research that aligns with Red Hat’s technical direction and open source mission. The RIG connects Red Hatters with researchers at partner universities to form coalitions in support of particular research initiatives. The RIG is composed of interested Red Hat Associates with a strong interest in a particular research area.
The RIG is also responsible for sharing its accomplishments and interests. The Research Website is the primary vehicle for communication but we also share through email, a quarterly publication and periodic Research Days and university events.
Greater New England RIG
Red Hat associates from Boston, Westford and several other US locations collaborate with New England and Mid-Atlantic researchers on many research projects. In addition to long-standing formal arrangements with Boston University, the Massachusetts Open Cloud, and the University of Massachusetts, we support student and faculty research and open source development work for undergraduates, Master’s and PhD students.
Europe RIG
The Brno Red Hat engineering site collaborates with several universities not only in the Czech Republic and Slovakia but also in Europe. Our long-term partner universities are Masaryk University, Faculty of Informatics and Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Information Technology, but we also cooperate with several other universities, including Czech Technical University in Prague or Graz University of Technology, Austria.
Israel RIG
The Engineering office in Israel is collaborating with different universities and colleges in the area: IDC Herzliya – The Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya is a private research college in Herzliya, is located very close to our Ra’anana office, The Technion – Israel Institute of Technology is a public research university in Haifa and MTA – The academic college of Tel-Aviv Yaffo.
