Jan Jančár

PhD student

Ján Jančár is a PhD. candidate at the Centre for Research on Cryptography and Security (CRoCS) at Masaryk University in Brno, where he  works on side-channel attacks, elliptic curve cryptography and security of cryptographic implementations. Dr. Vashek Matyas, Centre for Research on Cryptography, and Security, Masaryk University, Brno serves as his supervisor.

Ján’s research focuses on security of cryptographic implementations of asymmetric cryptosystems, mainly against timing and other side-channel attacks. He explores both software and hardware implementations. Ján prefers working with real-world hardware, such as smart cards using the JavaCard platform, as it makes any research results much more impactful, yet sometimes quite challenging to obtain, due to the black-box nature of hardware.
