Robert Munafo is a third year PhD student in the CAAD Lab, with a focus on high-performance computing with reprogrammable hardware. He designed his first general-purpose CPU architecture in 1979 and his first compiler in 1984. He has done both types of work repeatedly over the years since. He recently was an intern at Intel on the COPA project, which aims to standardize FPGA-based SmartNICs for widespread data center deployment.
